Gluten Free Lip Balms

The weather is frightful; it’s bitter cold and the winds are howling.  Being outside for any length of time quickly saps the moisture out of exposed skin, especially your lips.  For those that are industrious you can make your own lip balm, it’s a fairly simple but it can be a laborious process.  For those who want a “grab and go”  lip balm, I have compiled this list of gluten free products.  Please always make sure you read the labels as companies do change their ingredients.   While I have not included every gluten free lip balm produced, this list provides you with a variety of resources so you will be able to find a product that fits your needs.

Hurraw is a small company based in Montana that produces a great line of lip balms.  All natural, gluten free (I contacted the company and confirmed the source of Tocopherols is Sunflower Oil).  Their balms are made from premium raw, organic and fair trade ingredients, and contain natural flavors that are truly natural.  They have a wide variety of lip balms to choose from, 24 to be exact (at this writing).  Choose from one with Sunscreen, Unscented, or fabulous flavors like Black Cherry, Coffee Bean, Chai, Root Beer, Lime, and Cinnamon.  These balms glide on smoothly, and do not feel sticky or gritty, a bonus for children and adults.

Red Apple Lipstick is a company that I have trusted (and personally used) for years. Their commitment to producing a clean product goes above and beyond.  They have two Lip Balm products; Rallye Balm and an Exfoliate Stick.  These are Gluten Free, Soy Free, Corn Free, GMO Free, and Vegan.  For those looking for color, their Lip Gloss and Lipsticks are made with the same amount of care and dedication.  The products are a bit on the pricey side, but they are worth every penny, and last forever.

C & Co adhere to strict production standards during all manufacturing.  Their products are free from petrochemicals, detergents, fillers, GMOs and synthetic preservatives and are still affordable.  They have three gluten free lip balms:  Lavender & Peppermint, Spearmint and Sweet Orange & Ginger.

Beeyoutiful is another company that I love and trust.  High quality products that are reasonably priced.  They have two Lip Balms; Orange and Peppermint.  Both contain a short list of ingredients which include  GrapeSeed Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, and Essential Oils.

Lowen’s Natural Skin Care is a family-owned and operated business located at the foot of the rocky mountains in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  Fair Trade ingredients, reasonably priced.  This company provides full ingredient transparency, and has more than fifteen fun lip balm flavors including Peppermint Pouty, Cool Mint Mojito, and Salted Caramel Deep Fried Coffee (wow, say that fast 3 times).

Costal Classic Creations produces Windward Chapstick.  Manufactured with certified organic palm butter, certified organic Argan oil and pure, filtered, and cosmetic grade beeswax.

Green Beauty Natural Skin Care has two products to soothe your lips.  A gluten free Natural Lip Balm as well as a Natural Lip Shine (for just a hint of shine).  Natural ingredients which include Shea Butter, Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Soybean Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Cacao Seed Butter, Grapefruit Oil, Tocopherol, Bergamot Fruit Extract, Stevia Extract.

Mary Ann’s Naturals has an unflavored lip balm as well as three flavors; Lemon Coconut, Peppermint, and Orange Vanilla.  They have a short list of natural ingredients; Organic sunflower oil, Organic extra virgin coconut oil, Pure beeswax, and Essential Oils in the flavored balms.   These balms are a bit pricey, but this small company has also received high marks from the Environmental Working Group.

Opa’s Soap another small company that received high marks from the Environmental Working Group.  Opa’s produces five gluten free and well priced Lip Balms, two of which are tinted.  Lemon, Orange, and Spearmint without color,  Beet and Berry with a shimmer of red tint, and Beet and Malva with a light natural red color.  Apricot Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Organic Palm Kernel Oil, Candelilla Wax, Vitamin E (from Sunflower) Stevia, Essential Oils.

Primal Life Organics, Grunt Primal Lip Balm.  This company based in Ohio produces Paleo approved skin products.  Their Grunt Lip Balm contains Shea Butter, Organic Hemp Seed, Avocado, Extra Virgin Olive, and Coconut Oils, Organic Beeswax and Organic Peppermint Oils.

Tropical Traditions Lip Moisturizers have been used by my family for many years.  The Unscented/Unflavored Moisturizer contains Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Beeswax, and Organic Virgin Palm Oil.  I typically have one of these in my purse year round.  They also produced flavored balms which include:  Cinnamon/Peppermint, Tea Tree Oil, Orange/Cinnamon, Citrus, Coconut, and Vanilla.

For those of you who shop Vitacost their Glonaturals Lip Balm is gluten free and comes in Pina Colada and Citrus flavors.  Made from Coconut Oil, Soy Bean Wax, Apricot Oil,  Shea Butter, Candelilla Wax, Natural Flavor, Tocopherol (vitamin E) and Sunflower seed oil.

Badger Lip Balm has several gluten free options.  The unflavored contains Olive Oil, Beeswax, Castor Seed Oil, and Rosemary Leaf Extract.  Flavored Lip Balms that are also free of gluten include Pink Grapefruit, Vanilla Madagascar, Lavender & Orange, and Tangerine Breeze, Ginger & Lemon, and Highland Mint.  All are USDA Certified Organic and contain no petroleum, artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners.

Indigo Wild, producers of Zum contain Certified Organic Shea Butter, Certified Organic Sunflower Oil, and Certified Organic Beeswax. Free from petroleum by-products, mineral oils, and synthetic preservatives.  Eleven flavors to choose from and variety packs as well.

NOTE:  I have not included Burts Bees on this list as they will not guarantee that their products are Gluten Free.  The following is the statement that appears on their Website:  “We cannot provide a list of Burt’s Bees products that are safe for use with your allergy because our products may have been manufactured on a shared line with products containing gluten, or raw materials used in our products may have been processed in a facility that also processes products containing gluten.  Therefore, we are unable to state that any Burt’s Bees products are “gluten-free.” Several of our products are known to contain certain allergens, because raw materials that contain or are made from the allergen are intentional ingredients in those products.
